Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about tutoring with Mastery Tutoring.
What subjects do you cover?
We offer tutoring in mathematics (from elementary through AP Calculus), English & language arts, biology, chemistry, physics, history, social studies, and standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, PSAT, ISEE, SSAT, STAAR, and AP exams). We also provide study skills and executive function coaching. If you don’t see a subject listed, please contact us — we likely have a tutor who can help.
How are your tutors selected?
Every tutor at Mastery Tutoring is a certified educator or subject-matter expert with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. We conduct thorough background checks, verify credentials, and interview each candidate to ensure they align with our teaching philosophy. Many of our tutors hold advanced degrees and have years of classroom experience.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes. We provide both in-person tutoring at our Austin learning center and online sessions via a secure, easy-to-use video platform. You can choose the format that works best for your family, and you can switch between them at any time.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session fee. For complete details, please review our Cancellation Policy.
How does the free consultation work?
The free 30-minute consultation is an opportunity for us to learn about your student’s goals, strengths, and challenges. We’ll discuss subject needs, schedule preferences, and answer any questions you have. Afterward, we’ll recommend a tutor match and a proposed learning plan. There’s no obligation to continue.
Can I purchase sessions as a package?
Yes. We offer discounted 5-session and 10-session packages in addition to single sessions. Packages provide flexibility across subjects and can be shared among siblings. See our Pricing page for full details.
How do you track progress?
Each student receives a personalized learning plan with measurable goals. Tutors provide regular session summaries and periodic progress reports. For package clients, we include a formal review call to discuss achievements and adjust the plan as needed.
Do you help with homework or just teach concepts?
We do both. Sessions typically involve reviewing homework, reinforcing concepts from school, and proactively building skills to stay ahead. Our goal is to help students become independent learners, not just to complete assignments.
What ages and grade levels do you serve?
We work with students from kindergarten through college, as well as adult learners. Our tutors are skilled at adapting instruction to any age or level, from foundational skills to advanced placement courses.
Is there a minimum commitment?
No. You can book a single session, a package, or ongoing weekly sessions — whatever fits your needs. We never lock families into long-term contracts.
